The honest science of cold exposure

Cold is useful. It is not a personality. Most of the claims around ice baths collapse when you look at the actual literature: brief, repeatable exposure can help perceived recovery and mood, but it is a poor substitute for sleep, protein and progressive training.

At Evolve Up we program plunges after high-output sessions, not before heavy strength work. Three minutes at 4°C with a guided breath protocol is the default. Members who chase longer soaks for its own sake usually just delay the adaptation they came for.

Your band logs duration, exit heart rate and how you trained the next day. If the plunge is costing you sessions, we shorten it. If it is helping you show up, we keep it. That is the whole method.
